I enjoyed the weekend at the NPA Conference in DC. The bus ride was long, but it paid off with the nice hotel! The whole weekend was very well organized.
Actions were nice, but a little long. My favorite action as going to Ed DeMarco’s house. The marshals were good at handling the crowd, and we got our message across with signs and chants. It was really exciting to see that only a week after we returned, Obama decided to appoint someone new to DeMarco’s position. It felt like the work we did really mattered and had an effect.
Overall experience was good. I liked the seminars that we went to where they trained on how to do actions. They were a really disciplined group, but there is still room for fun. Even at the Immigration Hearing in the Hart Building we were able to communicate and follow directions without saying a word.
It was cool to walk around the government buildings in DC and see where a lot of the big decisions are made in our federal government. I was in a meeting with Congresswoman Schakowsky’s office. Her staffer showed that Schakowsky supports a lot of the same issues we do. Its good to see someone standing up for what her constituents want.
I would definitely do this trip again if I were invited…even if that meant taking a bus!
