Hi my name is Adele, and I am one of the leaders of One Northside’s Economic Justice Team.
[The #WeRise Day of Action in Springfield on March 11] was an adventure and experience that well! We organized to protest positively on issues that were meaningful to the group and to the people of Illinois.
The morning started out cool, but warmed up making it a beautiful day for what we had to do. Our bus was late, but finally we hit the highway and arrived in Springfield.
We went to the building where the laws are made, and we had a chance to speak to Rep. Mary Flowers who greeted us and took the time from her busy schedule to speak to us. Our other representatives were busy making laws. And that was a disappointment not being able to speak to them.
[When it was time for the action outside the governor’s office in the capitol,] it was a beautiful sight to see the matching shirts on the many thousands [of people] that were there. We showed that we are united by creating silence when we all put our fists in air. It was an eerie feeling [to have 2,000+ people standing silently in the capitol]. After the action inside the capitol, we shut down traffic and marched to the Governor’s mansion. We did a funeral for the 99% and again we demonstrated our oneness and solidarity.
We left our mark on Springfield!
