The Democrats and Republicans held their conventions last month and it’s clear there’s a lot at stake in the upcoming election. While elections come and go, ONE Northside will always be here with all of you, fighting for the resources communities deserve and making sure our governments serve our needs. Our organizing continues for more stable and affordable housing, high quality physical and mental health care, fully funded public schools and neighborhoods that are safe
for everyone. Please join us on September 13th, 3pm – 4:30pm* to make meaning of the moment, take action to win the Fair Tax and our other campaigns, and learn how to refocus investments into communities that have been left behind because of systemic racism and capitalism.
From Crisis to Opportunity will be virtual* and we will have online workshops. After an opening session where we share our vision of where we are headed and how we will get there, we will move into issue workshops to take action on tackling the intertwining systems of racism and capitalism. Which workshop will you choose?
Make Millionaires Pay Their Fair Share! Win the Fair Tax this November!A Time for Political Healing
This workshop is for people who identify as Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Color. We often play the role of Political Healers in our community. Join us to learn what that means and make a plan to ensure our community is counted — in the Census and in the November election!
Reimagining Public Safety Beyond Policing
This workshop will examine what safety means to you, how we achieve safety for ALL communities, how our current system of policing is harmful, especially to Black and other communities of color, and how investments in communities can decrease the need for policing. Participants in this workshop will take action supporting campaigns that challenge harmful police practices.
Racial Capitalism + the Fight for Medicare for All
This workshop will unpack how our health care system is affected by the intertwining systems of racism and capitalism, what a Medicare for All system would mean, and how it would put us on a path to an anti-racist, compassionate and abundant healthcare system. Participants will learn about immediate action steps that can be taken to make this vision a reality.
Tenants Rights & Organizing Session
Aspen Institute estimates 755,853 people are at risk of eviction in Illinois with the expiration of the moratorium. State rental assistance will only assist 30,000 people. What can we do? Tenants using their rights in an organized and disciplined way can build real leverage to force their landlords to the negotiating table, instead of eviction court. Join this workshop if you are a tenant worried about eviction, or you want to take action to support people staying housed in this crisis and always.
How to Be an Election Super Volunteer!
This workshop will highlight the critical role you (yes you!) can play in making sure we have a government that works for the people and not the 1% or big corporations. Volunteers are the lifeblood of campaigns, especially campaigns that elect grassroots leaders to office! Learn about the different roles volunteers play and make a plan to get involved. This is organized via our sister organization, ONE People’s Campaign.
