The Mental Health Justice Team at ONE Northside is proud to announce that we have won the Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) Campaign! After working on this campaign since May 2013, we landed on victory with the Chicago Police Department. The CPD has doubled its annual CIT Training goals to 400 officers in Basic CIT. Additionally, they will be publishing written quarterly reports on progress toward that goal to the Police Board! The first written report was published in the Sept. 18, 2014 report. Future reporting will include the total number officers trained since the inception of the CIT Program in Chicago, the current number of active officers trained in CIT, and how many officers have been trained in the previous year to date. We are very excited about these important steps toward increased training and accountability regarding the CIT program within CPD.
In order to celebrate and thank all the people who put so much into making this victory happen, we will be having a celebration on Thursday, Nov. 13th from 6-8pm at the Leland Room (1207 W. Leland). We will also be celebrating the 3500 people that ONE Northside registered to vote this summer and the Get Out the Vote efforts regarding raising the minimum wage which closed with 66% support in the election on November 4, 2014. Click here to join us at the Fall 2014 Victory Celebration.
There will be light refreshments, music, and a short program. We have invited the CPD and our local aldermen to join in the celebration as well. Please RSVP by clicking here if you are able to join.
