ONE Northside had three big victories in the last 6 months! Our years-long fights for economic justice, police accountability and affordable housing have paid off in tangible ways that will lead to concrete improvements in people’s lives.
This summer, the Illinois Legislature closed $655 million in corporate tax loopholes – this means our communities will have funding for services we need and deserve.
In July, the Chicago City Council passed the Empowering Communities for Public Safety ordinance – this means Chicagoans will have a new role and a bigger voice in public safety decisions.
In early November, the Chicago city budget included $5 million for single room occupancy hotel (SRO) maintenance and preservation – this means that building owners can maintain and improve their buildings which will lead to long-term affordable preservation of this vital housing.
