Please join us for a town hall conversation, organized by ONE Northside and ONE People’s Campaign, along with our north side elected officials 40th Ward Alderman Andre Vasquez, 47th Ward Alderman Matt Martin, and 48th Ward Alderwoman Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth on Sunday, August 27 from 3-5pm at North Shore Baptist Church (5244 N. Lakewood Ave.). This will be the first time we come together as an organization with our new and re-elected alderpeople. It will be an inspiring conversation about how we can work together to turn their campaign promises for a Chicago for All into a reality. It’s an opportunity to learn about the Bring Chicago Home and Treatment Not Trauma campaigns and show your support for these transformative solutions for affordable housing and public mental health care.
What is Bring Chicago Home?
Bring Chicago Home aims to create a dedicated revenue stream to pay for permanent housing with supportive services for people experiencing homelessness on an ongoing basis.
Our coalition’s proposal would increase the real estate transfer tax on properties over $1 million and generate around $160 million per year. Our proposal could house over 9,000 households with 15,000 people in the next decade.
How will it become law?
According to state law, a majority of Chicago city council must first pass a resolution to put a question on the ballot in the next election to obtain permission from the voters to raise the tax. Then a majority of voters must vote yes on the ballot measure. The city council can pass an ordinance raising the tax.

What is Treatment Not Trauma?
Treatment Not Trauma aims to create a city with a fully-funded, robust public care system.
It would establish a city wide crisis response program that sends trained mental health professionals, rather than armed police, to people in mental health crisis. It would also expand free, public mental health care services throughout Chicago.
