Last week we traveled to Springfield with over 40 ONE Northside grassroots leaders, Parent Mentors, organizers and members of our Violence Prevention team (@cp4ponenorthside) to talk to our state representatives about our priorities for our neighborhoods, especially the crucial need for progressive revenue solutions that will allow us to keep funding our vital community programs! With progressive revenue solutions like closing corporate tax loopholes we can have over $6billion in new revenue to make sure our families and neighborhoods thrive!

Last night members of our Building Safe Communitie

Last night members of our Building Safe Communities team and Violence Prevention team attended the public meeting of the @ccpsa_chicago to participate in this important part of our police accountability infrastructure! Members of the team gave public comment to the commission on their experiences with pretextual stops, which disproportionately targets Black and Brown drivers and creates dangerous and unjust situations. Shoutout to our teams!

Our Violence Prevention Program Manager Darrell spoke today in a press conference at the State Capitol with our partners in the IL Progressive Revenue Alliance. He said the idea that we have to find things to cut if we want to save vital community programs like ours is a false choice— pitting the folks at the bottom against each other while billionaires and corporations continue to not pay their fair share. ONE Northside is lucky to have a whole squad of talented interns joining us this winter! Altogether we have eight interns working on projects in housing justice, environmental justice, basebuilding, communications and more. They’re from programs at @depaulu, @thisisuic, @loyolassw, and @citycollegeschicago. We’re so glad to have them with us and excited to support them as they grow and learn with us this year!
