Let’s Go Green to Save Green for Our Schools

$ 14.4 Billion Dollars:

That’s how much money Chicago Public Schools (CPS) needs to fix aging roofs, pipes, windows, and walls at the schools that your children attend.

$ Hundreds of Millions of Dollars:

That’s how much money is available to Chicago Public Schools (CPS) in cash rebates from the federal government to switch to solar energy.  Solar would reduce energy costs and the savings could go towards other school needs.

$ 0 Dollars:

That’s how much of this federal money CPS has committed to use.

CPS can’t afford to walk away from federal dollars. 

The Healthy Green Schools Coalition was formed to help CPS do better for our kids.  We want every Chicago student to be able to learn in a building that is safe, comfortable, and beautiful.  Healthy school buildings improve attendance and boost academic performance.

CPS has an opportunity right now to use federal dollars to invest in clean energy projects.  While this funding can’t fix every building problem, it can help CPS:

1. Save money on its energy bills (CPS spends $95 million each year on energy).
2. Provide better indoor air quality and temperature controls for students and teachers.
3. Create learning and career opportunities for students around green technology.
