Join ONE Northside and our partners for the next public hearing of the Consent Decree proceedings on September 10 at 1pm! This meeting will be on Zoom. The Consent Decree hearings are a way for the public to help monitor reform efforts happening right now for the Chicago Police Department, and to demand more oversight and accountability. CPS will soon be releasing a final draft of their 5-year strategic plan, which currently includes no goals for green, healthy schools. We have an opportunity to influence members of the Board of Education before they finalize their plan on September 18 and take a vote on September 26. Billions of dollars for healthy, green upgrades are available through federal funds. CPS can improve our schools, increase funding and make them more environmentally resilient all at once!

Today our Environmental Justice team turned out to the Board of Education public meeting to support our leader and Parent Mentor Coordinator Nellie who called in with public comment on the need for Green Schools! Here’s Ms Adele and Deputy Organizing Director Seri with CTU Green Schools organizer Vinay, and a small clip of Nellie’s powerful testimony!

We’re so proud of @cp4ponenorthside Program Mana

We’re so proud of @cp4ponenorthside Program Manager Darrell Dacres for talking about his experiences at the special public meeting of the @ccpsa_chicago last night! His experience is exactly why we need reform of the practice of pretextual stops, which disproportionately target Black and Brown Chicagoans and put people’s lives in danger. We’re part of the @free2movechi coalition, which organized to get signatures to make CCPSA listen to public testimony on this issue. We have to keep bringing these stories to light and work to make CPD accountable and make all of us safer!
